I’m feeling reflective. It’s the time of year with short days and long evenings. A sense of hibernation. And deepening thoughts. I came upon this lovely quote: “The meaning of life is to find your gift. The purpose of life is to give it away.” David Viscott.
During 2019 I’ve been exploring my coaching style, and have enjoyed a real sense of becoming as a coach. My perspective has been enriched by being a member of two groups led by women who have encouraged me to consider growing downwards.
Growing downards. During the winter months, there’s little above ground growth is there? Yet under the ground a lot of energy is being expended, and growth occuring, so that when the earth is warm enough, an upwards flourish can occur.
Have you ever considered that for a tree to be as large and solid as it is, that the underground system which supports it has to be even bigger than the bit of the tree you can see above the ground?
If you want to flourish, then growing downwards is crucial to support, underpin and enable that flourish. And growing downwards is a journey deeper into self.
This is where I’m at as a coach. Helping clients to grow downwards so that the flourish is even greater. My challenge to you at the end of 2019 is to think about growing downwards. What does that look like for you? What needs to stop or slow down in order for you to do that? And how might that support more dramatic upwards growth in the spring of 2020? I’d like to help you with this, give me a call.
