Sometimes it can take me ages to get started with a blog post. I distract myself with looking for nice images and relevant quotes. I over-think it.
A bunch of clients recently have been trapping themsleves in Limbo-Land, which is an altogether unpleasant place without the radiant colours and show tunes of La-La-Land. And so often this is because of over-thinking or over-analysing the potential outcomes. And this paralyses them from taking any action at all.
All of the scenarios are played out in their heads and it seems all of them have unhelpful (and imaginary) outcomes. Catastrophising = head in sand, do nothing.
And then you throw technology into that mix. Indeed, my phone has just pinged with a notification whilst I’m typing away. And I couldn’t help myself, I went to have a look. It’s just done it again and I’m going to choose to ingore it now.
The ways we can procrastinate and trap ourselves in limbo grow ever more numerous. But here’s the thing…. if you want to understand more about your future, then you must act and take a step towards it. If you want to get data, then you need to take action in order to acquire it.
It doesn’t matter how small the action. Taking it will move you forwards. It will provide you with information and a clearer direction. And more importantly, by taking action you’ll take a step out of limbo. You’ll feel more positive and energised.
Here’s a great quote that I spent a few minutes finding. It was worth it as I think it illustrates my point beautifully: “Whatever you’re meant to do, do it now. The conditions are always impossible.” Doris Lessing. No point waiting for a good time. There isn’t one. So do it now.
If you are feeling stuck and can’t take a step, then take a small one by giving me a shout.
