If you’ve been following my blogs (thank you :)) you will know that I am working with a personal trainer and nutritionist, and am lighter, leaner, fitter and happier than I have been for years.
My wardrobe has recently taken quite a battering, and I’ve thrown away so many fat clothes, to the point where I really don’t have anything to wear! I was having a meal with a dear friend recently, telling her about the kinds of things I wanted to wear in future, the shops I’d like to be able to shop in, how I wanted to look, and so on. After a pause, she asked me ‘so, who are you really?’. My immediate response was that I’m just the same, but my external packaging is altering.
It’s a question that has stayed with me, and I am taking my time to process it. Do alterations to the exterior change the interior? Is what you see really what you get?
The conclusion I’ve come to is that there are parts of me which might be coming to the front, and parts of me which are taking more of a back seat. Have you noticed that sometimes you hear people say ‘well, there’s a part of me which …’ ?
What you see isn’t what you get, because not everything is on display simultaneously, or to the same degree. But as long as what is on display (or what you are choosing to share) is a real part of you, honest, authentic, then the real YOU is present.
Nigel Risner tweeted the following recently. He said:
“You were born to be real, not to be perfect. You’re here to be YOU, not to be what someone else wants you to be!”
